Children At Camp

Feedback from a 10 year old.

“I met friends I knew and made new friends, We went to the beach and swam in big waves, Maddie swam right next to a seal and didn’t see it.  I slept in a tent and a cabin and helped to make and serve food. We could make up our own games together”.

  • The camp is intended for all ages, people will bring children and some will come alone or with other adults.
  • We encourage everyone to mix and have fun with the community if they want to, and we respect that some will prefer to hangout with people of their own age group – be that adults or children. We encourage everyone to respect each others boundaries.

We aim to support children at camp in a number of ways.

We understand that children can find it hard to make themselves heard, or may feel intimidated in a meeting of adults. So we have established a tradition of inviting children/young people to speak first in the Community Circle. There is also a Childrens Gathering every afternoon where the children can raise practical issues and make requests and offers, or ask for support in saying something in the main Community Circle.

We try to support everybody who wants to contribute to camp and the community, this includes the children, those that are capable are invited to help out with the daily tasks eg preparing food, serving lunch or dinner, tidying up and washing up.
