Daily meals at camp

Practical contributions:- Meals and Cooking

Cooking and eating together is an important way to build our connections and community.

In order to keep the camp affordable for as many people as possible the camp requires everyone to take their turn in the kitchen helping to prepare a meal. This is likely to mean each person at camp helping to prepare one meal over the course of the week.  For most meals this will take 2-3 hours.

For those who may be worried about their cooking ability please do not worry as all the recipes and ingredients are provided and most of what needs doing is just peeling and chopping vegetables.

We will also need people to serve meals and wash up in the kitchen, each of these tasks will take about 20-30 minutes, and everybody will need to do each task once over the week.

Food

The camp provides three meals and hot and cold drinks daily.

In 2025 we designed a menu and recipes that ensured that all meals were vegan and gluten free with side options for vegetarians to add dairy and eggs for example. This was the most resource efficient way to provide food for 40+ heads three times a day, whilst considering allergies, intolerances and preferences as well as nutritional content.

The menu’s have been carefully been built upon year on year to improve upon feedback, and to ensure greater focus on nutrition as well as reduce our food waste.

Allergens and intolerances are taken seriously, please let us know on your booking form and one of us will contact you to have a conversation to understand your requirements so we can decide how best to accommodate them.

Breakfast is provided on a help yourself basis, including porridge, cereal, toast and spreads, fruit etc.

Lunch is normally soup or a lighter meal. Examples from last year include:-

  • Sweet Potato, Carrot and Coriander Soup, Bread, Houmous, leaf salad, Tomatoes + Cucumber
  • Mexican tacos, salad, plain yoghurt and guacamole, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes and carrot sticks
  • Leek and Potato Soup, leaf salad, carrot sticks, cucumber, vegan slaw

Dinner will be a larger meal. Examples from last year include:-

  • Coconut Dhal, Brown Rice, Broccoli and Carrots
  • Pasta and Sauce, Broccoli, Leeks, grated cheese
  • Cottage Pie, Peas + cabbage

Alternatives will be provided for children who don’t want to (or cannot) eat the main dish, these will include pasta, baked potatoes, vegan sausages, pizza.

Please ensure you make us aware of relevant details (such as food or sensory sensitivities) in your booking form.

Hot drinks (tea, coffee, herbal and fruit teas etc), fruit squash are available for you to help yourself all day and we aim to provide fresh fruit (apples, bananas, melon pieces etc) as daily snacks.
